I have to say, I really think playing it safe is not the way to go.
Not because there aren’t moments where you really have to take care of yourself, but in a general attitude point of view. There is this old saying that says that a ship is safe in the harbor…but that’s not what ships are made for. Let yourself set out to the dangerous seas which are your life and open the sails. Tie down the ropes and move. Move towards the edge because that is where your limits live. Right at the edge. You will know it when you get there because this little thing called fear pops into your mind. You will hear your mind start to chatter a million miles a second.
This is a good sign. Keep moving forward.
The message is really short today.
You were built to do amazing things in this world.
Not to fall into the same river everyone else is traveling. What is the point of that? Just another manufactured life with no thought of going against the grain. Why not do it your way? Get off the beaten path. How great is the path traveled by anyways? Complaining about your job, divorce rate at 50%, overeating and unhappiness while looking at magazines of photoshopped people. Absolute madness. Tear it all up. Burn it all out of your mind. Go do you. Your life. Whatever the hell you want to do. If that’s living in the mountains, go. If that’s writing for the rest of your life, do it.
But do what is going to make you happy. Money doesn’t buy you happiness. Yeah it will help out with the necessities, but it is you that is going to make you happy. No one else. Don’t depend on a significant other or friend to make you happy. Don’t put that on them. Put it on you. You might struggle for a while, but in the end, you will have the biggest smile on your face.

The Better Man Project
Another masterpiece π (I’m catching up on my Better Man posts, if you couldn’t tell π ) So inspirational and reminds me what I did recently by starting my own candle business on Etsy. I dove in and did it! If I put it off until everything was absolutely perfect, all the the funds safely secured, it would have NEVER happened. Was I fearful – YES! But I’m doing it and it makes me happy!
i love this. thank you! π

So totally true. I look back at life and see risks I did take and voila somehow it worked out, with support from many places. There are also times I played it too safe and your words inspire not to be too cautious.
These words come at a good time for me. Thank you. π

Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” came to mind when I read this post. One of my favorite inspirational books…great message.
Good read to start off my day ! π

I’ve been wanting to write on this topic for a while because I’m at a point where I want to take so many risks, but I think you couldn’t have said it better. Thanks for this motivational post!
Very inspiring. The world is waking up to this! π
Short, sweet and full of wisdom. I’ve been off line a month – just starting to
read today and hopefully write soon. Missed your posts! Thanks.

Couldn’t have been posted at a better time in my life. Thanks.
Well said, playing it safe is so much easier. One of my sayings is ( what the heart can give and money can’t buy ) most I find cannot even comprehend this statement. Which I find very sad, life is about the little things. The best things in life, love, passion, kindness, friendship, gentleness, hugs and kisses. Have a wonderful day, thank you!
Go do you! Great post and more people need to understand and live the message you brought across.
Busy reinventing at age 62! New job/career as a reporter. New book of short stories recently published on Amazon (Through the Glass Darkly), and renewed attitude re who I am. Thanks for liking/responding to The Autumn Burn. Poetry, also, is a new/renewed interest. The quote is right on. Einstein wasn’t exactly chopped liver, was he?
“Not to fall into the same river everyone else is traveling.” And that IS the point!! Amen and thank you!
Good points!

“Go do you”. I love that. Thank you – just what I needed to read tonight.
A winning quote.
loved your advice..thanks a lot !
Doesn’t it depend on what the big dreams are? Surely we have to ground them in reality and morality for them to be worth having. Einstein reached for the stars, but he did so while standing on solid ground.
* It is a brilliant quote tho’ !
Amazing! I was thinking of exactly the same thing today! How the majority sweat and suffer for the few to shine and how it could be so easy to shine for ourselves instead – the leap of faith! “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us” Marianne Williamson
Agreed!

This is exactly what I needed to read today. And, I need to read this everyday. I forget to remind myself to try harder and to do what is best for the outcome of my life… I need to be as great as I want to be. No one else can do that for me.
Totally agree that always playing it safe is not the way to go. If I’d have played it safe I would be still living in a cold, dark Victorian tenement block in the Northern Hemisphere doing a job I hated. Instead I’m a stay at home mum living in a subtropical climate enjoying a life I couldn’t have dreamed of if I’d tried π All I would say though is that after having kids, perspective changes a little, well mine has anyway. Some of the choices I’ve made to get myself where I am now were made without children in mind, before I had them. I realise now that some of those decisions were not well thought through and now adversely impact my children – for example, we live 20,000k from our nearest family…no regrets that we didn’t play it safe, but consequences have not always been easy to handle, far from it.
Still plan to do some more backpacking tho – just won’t be 3 to a motorbike or any more dodgy night boats π
Great advice – I love it!
