Day (356) – Incredible

The past two days have been incredible. In fact, the pro himself is sitting right behind me editing away the video we have been shooting over the past couple days about The Better Man Project. Ive seen 5 clips he has shot…and I am already like a kid on Christmas. I can’t wait to see what the final product looks like. Today, is about turning your dreams into a reality…and what that feeling is like.

Three days ago, I found out that there is a sneaky little catch with crowdfunding as an individual and not as a company. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) is cracking down on these types of projects, and wants their cut of what you gain through raising money etc. If you are very successful, and you have 10′s to 100′s of thousands of dollars come into your bank account…three things will happen. 1. You will have to hire an accountant. 2. You will have to hire a tax lawyer to deal with the very very very tricky tax implications and rules of this whole ordeal. 3. Almost guaranteed automatic audit. Yikes right? Yikes as in exactly one week before I was going to launch an incredibly big campaign via Indiegogo. So adversity struck…and right now, I can’t crowdfund. But wait…

I pretty much immediately started thinking of ideas on how I could turn this my way. Okay…so that form of funding is out. But what do you still have. We have a fully edited and completed book. We have an incredible fan base. We are going to have one of the coolest mini documentary movies out there soon. And…we have an awesome audio version coming out too. Nothing really…has changed. The only thing that has changed is a timeline. So here is my plan.

1. The launch date for the book moves up to probably January 10 as a digital version (we were going to do this anyways, and it will be a ton cheaper for everyone…and I can send it anywhere without you having to pay shipping costs)

2. If enough people after the digital version of the book comes out want a hardcover version…then I will collect and save $ and use it towards the first run of books.

With everything moving to digital anyways…this whole crowdfunding taxes and legal disaster might have been a blessing in disguise. I really think it was. And that is exactly in relation to what I want to talk about today. Adapt and adjust.

There are always going to be speed bumps along the way. But it is how you turn those seemingly negative events into positive ones that really matters. How do you turn your life around when it seems to be in the dumps? What is your mentality? I could have let that whole thing ruin my dream, but instead, I am going to let this work to my advantage. We are going to absolutely crush it. And things look a little bit different from I thought they would…but I did all the work it took to get to this point and I am sure as hell not stopping now.

Expect there to be bumps and bruises along the way. If there aren’t…what the hell did you learn? Nothing. So to new challenges and to accomplishing dreams. I hope you are out there creating yours.

  2. It’s amazing to see something you craeted “in the flesh” isn’t it? Be that a video, or a book, or a poem, or whatever, Keep at it!! I love the Maya quote too, always good to remember that you are at the centre of your ability to change your reality.

  3. I’ve been following you for a few days now and your posts have been more than inspiring. As they say it’s not how you fall but how you rise once fallen, is what matters! You really do know how to turn your adversities into opportunities so you’ll get there surely where your dreams take you. Best of luck! :-)

  4. I love the attitude :-) I will share with you what someone told me today when talking about launching my own Personal styling business “BELIEVING is SEEING-not the other way around”. Good Luck!
